IGNOU ODL vs Online Courses
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has commenced admissions for the January 2025 session. Students can enroll in a variety of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Learning (OL) courses across certificate, diploma, and degree programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Although both ODL and Online mode of programme do not have regular physical classes, but there are a few differences between them.
IGNOU Online courses have compulsory online classes. These classes are conducted on the Learning Management System (LSM). Attendance in these classes are necessary to get the hall tickets for the IGNOU term end examinations. Additionally, no printed learning materials are given in the IGNOU Online mode. The number of programmes is also fewer in number compared to ODL. Nevertheless, IGNOU’s online degrees have the same validity as the IGNOU distance degrees. Students can choose the mode of education that serves them the best.
IGNOU online distance education (ODL) courses are distance education courses. There are no online or regular classes conducted in this mode. Students are given the IGNOU learning modules/syllabus either in printed or online form at once. They have to complete these course modules by themselves, but they get the help of IGNOU student services like online libraries, recorded classes (for important topics), and contact classes at the IGNOU regional center.

IGNOU 2025 Courses
IGNOU initiated admission for all Online and ODL (UG, PG, Certificate, and Diploma) level courses in the 2025-26 January academic session. Students must be eligible for their desired course from any recognized educational board or university. Applicants must pay the registration/application form fee of INR 300 for all programs.
IGNOU Samarth Portal is designed for the online admission process, but to submit an offline admission form, applicants must go to one of the university’s authorized regional centers. Most of the UG programs at IGNOU do not ask for a minimum mark criteria. Only professional courses like BLIS require a minimum percentage criteria of 50% marks.
IGNOU BEd Admission 2025
IGNOU BEd admission will start from January 2025. This course provide professional training in the theory and practical skill of primary education. Students learn the concept of learning theory and curriculum building. With the help of IGNOU study centres they participate in practical classes for BEd practicals.

For the new session, Indira Gandhi National Open University decided not to conduct any entrance tests for MBA admission. IGNOU has revised its admission criteria for the MBA (Banking and Finance) program.

IGNOU Admission Cancellation
It is also possible that a student may decide to not continue their IGNOU admission process. Foreseeing this IGNOU has an admission cancellation policy for the 2025 January process.
