IGNOU Itanagar Regional Centre was established in 2000. It was formed as part of a project called the North East Project. It aimed to provide quality education to the students of the region. It started working in two rented rooms. Currently, it has all the necessary amenities, including computer labs and conference rooms.
In 2014, it was awarded the University’s Gold Medal for Best Service by the University. By offering its Diploma in Elementary Education programme, it has trained thousands of teachers in the state governments of various states.
